Reflection – July 2018
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world”.
This is what I want to do, this is what I want you to reflect on, that Christ’s Joy may be in you. The Kingdom of God is in the mustard seed, in the little bit of leaven. The Kingdom is Here and Now, It is available to each of us all the time. It’s why God tells us over and over, “Be not afraid” because God is with us Here and Now. If we would open our eyes to see Christ’s face in the faces of those we love, and perhaps more importantly, in those we don’t yet, we see the Kingdom of God. We are not “Pie in the sky “ Christians; we are “Body of Christ” Christians. We know by faith that God is at work in us Here and Now.
We need to do this, especially in times like these, days of children deliberately orphaned by our government, gun violence in our schools, or the manifestations of racism and evil we see in these times. Here and now, we need to be reminded to do the little bits of good that we can do. Drawing inspiration from the Talmud, Thomas Kaneally reminded us in Schindler’s List “Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.” Therese of Lisieux tells us “ Do little things extremely well for love of Me” Here there is Faith, here there is Hope, here there is Joy.
